Hafiz Ata Ullah Abu Ammar Jununi was born on 1 January 1974 in Karachi, Pakistan, to a Rohingya family that had fled Arakan State after facing religious persecution and insecurity at the hands of the Myanmar military junta and state-backed Rakhine extremist groups. Like many Rohingya families of that generation, his family lived in exile while remaining deeply connected to their homeland, history, and identity.

Although born outside Arakan, he was raised with a strong sense of belonging to his people and their homeland. From an early age, he learned about the suffering endured by the Rohingya community, including displacement, discrimination, and the denial of fundamental rights. These experiences shaped his understanding of the challenges facing his people and strengthened his commitment to their future.

During his youth, he moved to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, where he continued his education and later pursued higher studies at Riyadh University. Alongside his academic and religious studies, he served as an Imam and became actively involved in community affairs. He was widely known within the Rohingya diaspora for his dedication to community service and his efforts to support Rohingya families living abroad.

Despite living outside his homeland, he remained closely connected to developments in Arakan State and followed the worsening situation faced by the Rohingya people. As generations of Rohingya continued to face persecution, statelessness, displacement, and the systematic denial of their rights, he became increasingly committed to working for the protection, dignity, and future of his people.

In 2016, together with Rohingya individuals who could no longer endure the ongoing suffering and injustices inflicted upon their community, he founded the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA). The organization was established in response to decades of persecution, violence, displacement, and the systematic denial of the rights of the Rohingya people in Arakan State. Under his leadership, ARSA emerged as an organized resistance movement dedicated to defending the Rohingya community and protecting its rights, security, identity, and future.

Since the establishment of ARSA, Hafiz Ata Ullah Abu Ammar Jununi has provided leadership and direction to the organization. His vision has remained centered on the restoration of justice, freedom, citizenship rights, and security for the Rohingya people in their ancestral homeland. He has consistently emphasized responsibility, service to the people, and the defense of those who continue to face oppression and persecution.

Today, he continues to lead ARSA in the struggle for justice and freedom, while remaining committed to defending the rights, dignity, identity, and future of the Rohingya people. His life reflects the experience of many Rohingya families who have endured displacement and hardship for decades, while his leadership remains guided by the aspiration for a future in which the Rohingya can live freely, securely, and with equal rights in Arakan State.
